I spent the day with these two great ladies this past week learning to make some delicious Serbian dishes and breads by my dear friend. She is so sweet woman and one of the best cooks I have ever met. She made three different kinds of breads, lunch and dinner for us also and everything was amazing! I feel so blessed to call her my friend and to have her share with me her wonderful talents and love for cooking. I shared with her many of my American recipes and made for her Chocolate Chip cookies and Carrot Cake.
This is the dough for my favorite pastry that is filled with home made jam. The square thing on the board that looks like paper is a thin frozen layer of pig fat. Yes, you guessed it, it goes into the dough, giving it that light and flaky delicious pastry look and taste.
These little jewels are truly amazing! The dough is made very much the same way that croissants are made with layers of butter so they turn out flaky and light. They are filled with jam and then folded over and baked and topped with vanilla flavored powder sugar. I love these!!
This is the dough for the cinnamon rolls. They are filled with raisins and cinnamon. No Sugar!
These are the cinnamon rolls!
This is a very healthy and delicious fruit roll made with dried apricots, figs, prunes, and walnuts all cut into small pieces and then smashed together with our hands. Then we rolled it into a log in coconut and put it in the freezer. We slice it and love having it with our breakfast!
This the finished product for our bread for dinner.
Here is her kitchen and her lovely daughter, who has an amazing voice! She is studying to be an opera singer.
The Elders and my husband enjoyed the rewards of our day.
We drove to Novi Sad and spent the night there and the next morning we took a walk in this lovely park before we drove to Osijek to meet with the missionaries and do some training.
from carrie with love
