Vukovar Croatia

The Water Tower in Vukovar Croatia stands as monument and reminder of the Croatian War of Independence in the early 1990's.  The damage to Vukovar during the siege has been called the worst in Europe since World War II.  There were about 2,000 self organized defenders defending their city.  This poor city suffered heavy damage during the siege. It is estimated that over 2,000 defenders of Vukovar and civilians were killed, 800 went missing and 22,000 civilians were force to exile.
Here are some homes and buildings that still stand as reminders of this sad time.
Here we are with Branko standing in front of a monument for those who lost their lives in this war.
This is the hospital that was hit during the war.  It has a bomb shelter that survived the bombing and was set-up as a make shift hospital for the wounded and women and children.
It is set-up today representing the time during the war.

These were trucks they covered with steel to be their tanks.

Matea with her wonderful parents, Branko and Vesna.  It was such a pleasure to meet her parents and her sister and brother.  Her family was so kind to share with us their time and their home.  We had a wonderful time learning about the history of their beautiful country and people.

Here we are with our new friends, what a great weekend we had with them!
